Things to Do
Indian Fort Mountain
Berea's beloved hiking destination with sweeping ridge-top views of the Kentucky foothills.
Just east of town, Indian Fort Mountain is the outdoor centerpiece of Berea. Owned and maintained by Berea College, this network of trails climbs through hardwood forest to a series of rocky overlooks that reward hikers with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The trails
The trailhead begins at the Indian Fort Theater parking area. From there, a well-marked trail system leads to several summits — Eagle's Nest, East Pinnacle, West Pinnacle, and Buzzard's Roost. The East Pinnacle is the most popular, offering the widest views. Expect a moderate climb with some rocky, steep sections near the top.
What to know before you go
The trails are free and open to the public during daylight hours. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and be prepared for uneven terrain. The full loop to all pinnacles is several miles, but shorter out-and-back options make it accessible for casual hikers and families.
Indian Fort Theater
At the base of the mountain sits the historic Indian Fort Theater, an outdoor amphitheater that hosts the annual Berea Craft Festival and other community gatherings throughout the warmer months.
